On the subject of supplements, generally speaking I have to say I’m not a big proponent. I only use and recommend two plant-based detox support items: psillium husk and cascara sagrada in addition to bentonite clay. I discuss this in more details in the post referenced in the MSN Healthy Living article: “Juicing Q&A: How to help the liver & colon eliminate more effectively?“. The necessity for supplementation for vegans (or lack thereof) is a highly controversial topic and Vitamin B12 supplementation especially is a heated debate. As you now know, I’m not one to particularly care to jump on the controversial bandwagon or attempt to convince others to do as I do. I only care to share my own experience in an effort to encourage you to take things into your own hands and discover your own truths.
Personally I don’t buy fear-based generalized statements of any kind. I’ve been thriving on a vegan lifestyle for most of my life and on a raw vegan lifestyle for 7-8 years without the need and/or desire to take any “supplements” other than the ones mentioned above. As I’ve said before, I do incorporate into my “diet” a handful of superfoods such as bee products (bee pollen and royal jelly especially), sea vegetables and spirulina. And that’s pretty much it. Vitamin supplements (especially in synthetic form) aren’t something I personally choose to intake.
