Happy New Year Greetings from magical Egypt! I hope you’ve all had a wonderful Holiday season!
If you follow me on Instagram you must have caught a glimpse of my extended trip through beautiful North Africa. No conventional Holidays for me this season (last season’s weren’t either but I like them this way as you know 😉
I landed in Cairo in mid-November after a long exhausting journey via Turkey (waking up to the majestic Giza Pyramids was absolutely mind-blowing… something I will never forget) and embarked on a ten-hour road trip to an ancient and peaceful oasis tucked 350 miles away from the bustling Egyptian megalopolis.
I spent Thanksgiving far from wifi signals… riding sand dunes in the Libyan desert, soaking in healing sulfur-rich hot springs and salt lakes, and sipping hibiscus tea at an impromptu henna party amongst a sweet Berber family who showered me with the most heartwarming hospitality (I so wish I could share with you all this extraordinary gift but in this very traditional household the women – who were fully veiled – could not be publicly seen nor photographed but no worries I have truckloads of spellbinding photographs of this enchanting oasis for you to marvel at as I have…).
As I’ve shared earlier, this year’s Holiday celebrations have been imbued with a very special meaning as I have also been celebrating my return to Africa, my beloved birth continent, after twenty long years of separation.
What an incredible journey! Filled with extraordinary places and powerful sacred wonders. I can’t wait to start sharing with you all the beauty, inspiration and the deep love I have for this amazing land and its people, and wish that this exciting New Year brings your way much joy, happiness, vibrant health and fulfillment.
P.S. Looks like welcoming the New year with shimmering gold is becoming The Global Girl’s celebratory tradition. This year, I’m swapping sacred golden Burmese buddhas for a Cleopatra-inspired gold lame gown by American-born and Paris-based couture designer Vicky Tiel 😉 Wishing you a golden 2016!
Unfortunately this draped gold lame gown by Vicky Tiel is a one-off but below is a selection of stunning metallic goddess numbers I also love.
