In the romantic (and a tad melancholic) opening scene of Second Chance, we wanted a soft, feminine touch combined with hopeful confidence (the film is a fun balancing act of glam and girl power). And I thought this mango/raspberry cupcake color palette would totally fit the bill. Don’t ask me why… Can’t quite explain it, especially since I’m not exactly a cupcake kinda girl (never had one in my life, I’m a self-confessed health nut). At any rate, as we were prepping for the shoot and discussing the scene, this stunning side-slit maxi dress from the BCBG Max Azria Spring/Summer 2013 collection popped into my mind. I’d spotted it on the runway (fourth pic from the top) during New York Fashion Week and I loved its understated elegance sooo much (and the color, of course!), I knew I had to have it in the film.
Next, I was on the hunt for the perfect set of accessories. As I was scanning for shoes, this pair of BCBG Max Azria color-blocked sandals jumped right off the screen. Perfect match. Clean, elegant, colorful. Every bit the modern girl, with a kick-ass gold metal heel to boot. I was in Styling Heaven!
Of course, no look is truly complete without the perfect bag 😉 I knew it was going to be prominently featured as soon as I caught a glimpse of Phillip’s storyboard (it gets the extreme close-up treatment within the first five seconds of the film). So I wanted a statement piece that would set the fashion tone. With a rich texture that’d reflect the light and give off that gorge glimmering look in the lens. And naturally in this cupcake mango/raspberry color palette… Mission impossible (or so I thought), until I did a double take gazing at this stunning watersnake leather clutch while on a treasure hunt at the Monika Chiang showroom! Helloooo, beautiful (I exclaimed)! You are the perfect answer to my “fashion” prayers 😉
