Today I’m answering a question from @benni_k one of The Global Girl’s followers on Instagram:
Why such an extended juice fast? Are you snacking on nuts in between? Btw you’re freaking fabulous!
Thanks @benni_k!
First of all, there are no rules in terms of length. I’ve done juice fasts that have lasted a morning, 5 days, and 3 months… And I feel that I have benefited from every single one of them in terms of improved health and overall well-being. That being said, what I’ve experienced is that the longer I give my body a chance to rest and take a break from engaging in heavy duty digestion, the deeper and more powerful the detox and healing. I’ve found extended juice fasts (I am just about to complete my second 92-day juice fast) to considerably accelerate the detox process. Prolonged juice fasts are deeply transformative physically, emotionally and spiritually. That’s what I love about them. I feel that at the end of a 3-month juice fast I’ve achieved a level of cellular cleansing, healing and overall regeneration that would take years to achieve with a succession of short-term fasts.
As far as snacking on nuts, the idea is to give my body a break from having to spend most of its energy digesting so it can dedicate all its efforts towards cleansing and regeneration so no, my sole nutritional intake is in juice form.

Snacking on nuts? Lol , she’s not a squirrel!
Hi There. Congrats on both of your extended fasts. I once did a 40 day mainly water fast and had quite a but of hair loss/thinning afterwards. Have you experienced such a thing during any of your extended fasts?
Thank you, Ndoema. I am starting this year on a journey of renewal and reflection. Accordingly, I want to improve my health. I want to start juicing and try my first short juice fast.
I’ve been researching juicers. My head is spinning from all the reviews. There are some juicers that are better for only fruits, but some juicers that do not juice leafy greens very well. Do you have any recommendations? Given that you’ve completed two 92-day juice fasts, I know you have a dependable juicer.
Hi Melena,
Congratulations on taking such a wonderful step!
I get asked about juicers all the time so I’ve written a post where I discuss in detail my favorite juicers and why I like them.
