Hard to believe but Fashion Week is just around the corner! Seems like it was only yesterday when I was frolicking in the snow, braving stormy weather and ice skipping my way towards Lincoln Plaza to attend the amazing roster of shows I’m beyond lucky to get invited to. Historic blizzard or not, the Fashion Week Magic always lives on but let’s face it, last season had its share of challenges… But I wasn’t facing them alone, far from it. And I’m so grateful to the incredible team that worked hard by my side on these stormy days (and nights) to make my stay smooth sailing. And filled my heart with some of the most wonderful Fashion Week memories to date.
My most amazing Fashion Week gift came in the form of Dream Girl, Verena Zannantoni (pictured above, elegantly poised outside the Catherine Malandrino Fall 2013 Show). In one word: Pure awesomeness! She landed on my team like a gift from The Heavens. Verena is not only one of the very best assistants I’ve ever had, hands down, she’s also one of these rare beings you’re grateful to be sharing a little bit of earth time with. Brilliant, resourceful, gorgeous (inside and out), with astonishing work ethics (I mean systematically showing up at 9:59 am for a 10:00 am call time. Hello!? Ready for a phone meeting past midnight… need I say more !?) and simply a joy to be around. She single-handedly manned our team of interns (she could do it in her sleep, I swear) and faced every unforeseen challenge with the utmost efficiency, grace and that heartwarming smile on her face.
Funny enough, Verena and I grew up not very far from one another. She in Northern Italy and I in a small town on the French/Swiss border. The fact that she’s also the globetrotting kind (she’s lived in Germany, Australia, Brazil and toured Japan with MTV) and speaks French fluently (German and Italian as well) may have something to do with the fact that I instantly felt inexplicably at home with this fabulous lady.
I know greatness when I see it and Iet me tell you, this girl is going to go far.
Pictured alongside the beautiful Verena is our fab Fashion Week Squad: UCM Fashion grad and multitasking wonder woman Leah Hoffman (who’s heading to London for graduate school. Congratulations!). Our social media maven and fave fiery redhead, Megan Burns and our field photographer and techno wiz kid, Kegan Barber.
So, that concludes another peek behind-the-scenes to meet some of the wonderful folks I’m lucky to be working with and whose hard work, enthusiasm, dedication and shear goodness of heart is to me, a constant source of inspiration.

My name is Jismeri Castillo and I’m a Senior at Montclair State University. I’m majoring in English but have a deep passion for the fashion world—I have been an active member of MSU’s Fashion Club for a year and am currently the Club’s PR Chairperson for this coming year. I am also currently interning with Rent the Runway as a Social Media Rep. My fashion-related experience includes assisting with the Fashion Club’s Fall Fashion Show (promoting door-to-door, acquiring sponsors and gift bag donations, working backstage, setting up), creating a promotional video for Rent the Runway, and maintaining the social media pages for both the Fashion Club and Rent the Runway’s MSU team. I live in North Bergen, NJ, which is only 20 minutes away from NYC, and I am fairly familiar with getting around the city. My availability tends to vary, due to my part time job and school starting very soon, but I am willing to clear my schedule as much as possible during Fashion Week.
I feel that I’m a perfect fit to work with The Global Girl because my previous experience has taught me to multitask and work under pressure, two very important qualities during the craziness of Fashion Week!

Unfortunately, Rent the Runway just asked me to remove the Facebook page I had created and instead use a new one they created for me so that they could more easily monitor my posts. The new URL for the page is https://www.facebook.com/RTRMontclair. It is a little bare at the moment, but the Rent The Runway MSU Twitter page also has the same exact posts that I had posted on the old Facebook page.
As creators, critics, and buyers, we’re living in a 2.0 world. Social media provides a viable venue for designers’ collections to be featured, uniquely interpreted, and distributed to the masses, thus ensuring the fashion industry thrives for posterity.
As a style blogger and personal stylist, I’m seeking an opportunity that will allow me the flexibility of web writing while also tapping into my ability to interpret stories from Fashion Week’s professionals. What will this accomplish? In short, my writing and interviewing skills, doubled down with my love for the interplay of social media and fashion, is what will deliver story-driven content for fashion creatives, critics, and consumers who want a piece of Fashion Week’s pie.

– Why you would be particularly well suited for this internship.
No one is more excited or ready for Fashion Week as I am! It would be a wonderful opportunity and experience to intern at The Global Girl for Fashion Week. Your coverage of fashion, beauty and trends are always spot on. I have excellent interviewing skills, I work great under pressure and time constraints and most importantly and I’m fun and fashionable. I follow every fashion week, know of all the hot designers and I graduated from FIT. I live for fashion and style. I would love the opportunity to join your team, to use my skills and also pick up some skills from you guy!
