Travel is a major source of inspiration for me. Discovering new countries and cultures is truly fascinating and creatively stimulating. I’ve spent the most inspiring couple months journeying through amazing Southeast Asia and it’s enriched my life in so many wonderful ways. Every single place in the world I’ve lived in and explored has had a meaningful impact and has shaped a bit of who I am.
Traveling the world is only one of the many ways of traveling I enjoy. Traveling inward (through meditation and contemplation) and traveling in time are daily forms of explorations I adore. From an artistic standpoint I absolutely love the Thirties. It’s Hollywood’s Golden Age (I’m a big classic movie buff) and the art deco influence in style and architecture is the epitome of that zen aesthetic I’m always drawn to. I also find loads of inspiration in the Fifties (that recurrent minimalist Asian influence is prominent there again). But I’m also a rebel at heart, so I’m truly a child of the Sixties and Seventies. Counterculture. Empowerment. And many musical influences I love stem from these riveting eras.
While I was styling this shoot, I must have had Jimi Hendrix playing in the back of my mind. Going for a Seventies inspired aesthetic wasn’t necessary something I aimed for consciously but – headband and big hair aside – the evidence is overwhelmingly there …
