I’ve covered Mathieu Mirano before. His Fall 2013 collection was the bomb (check it out here). Incredibly edgy yet ultra feminine, with a masterful play on textures and … it was loaded with metallics! I put the emerging designer on my “to-watch” list and though I wasn’t able to squeeze his Spring 2014 presentation in my New York fashion week schedule last season, I knew I’d be back for more. This time around was Mirano’s first runway show so I knew I had to attend. His show was sleek and polished but I must say though his Fall 2014 collection does showcase his trademark strong and sexy aesthetic, it’s kind of a radical departure from his avant-garde style. To tell you the truth, what sets him apart in my opinion (and what I love most about his work) is his bold and futuristic aesthetic. So I was looking forward to the high drama and awe-inspiring feel of his Fall 2013 show but the lineup was unexpectedly classic with monochromatic pencil skirts, power suits and moto jackets. Of course, I zeroed in on the metallics and Metropolis-inspired molded leather corsets! Definitely must-haves. Conclusion, Mathieu Mirano’s Fall 2014 collection may not be infinitely out there but it’s infinitely wearable.
