Whenever I’m asked to share a personal beauty tip or some favorite secret beauty weapons, I invariably draw a blank for a sec or two. It’s just that to me beauty isn’t something that’s cut off from the overall lifestyle choices I’ve made over the years. I see healthy skin and bouncy locks as the by-products of the 360 way of life I’ve embraced, from raw foods and juicing to detox and meditation.
Of course there are really cool products out there that are fabulous beauty-boosting allies (and I’m always on the lookout for the latest and coolest beauty toy). That said, for me the true beauty epiphany (from effortless weight loss to natural head-to-toe glow) has come as a result of some healthy lifestyle choices (considered extreme by some, such as completing multiple 92-day juice fasts and some hardcore liver flushes) combined with simple daily switches that ended up bringing about some really amazing beauty transformations.
Below are 5 simple natural beauty tips that have worked wonders for me.
I know it may come as a shocker to most, but this is one of the most dramatic beauty-boosting practices I’ve embraced over the years. We’ve all heard countless times that “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” and I personally bought into this “breakfast myth” for years. I truly believed that I couldn’t face the day without my huge bowl of “healthy” cereals, the soy milk, my beloved wholewheat bread, etc. Yet, the truth is ditching breakfast (doing simple juices, smoothies or fresh fruits until 12 noon instead) has had the most profound effect on my overall metabolism and elimination organs (hello flat tummy and gorgeous skin!).
So what’s the secret behind this secret”? Allowing your body to follow its natural elimination cycle. For a great introduction to natural body cycles I recommend reading Fit for Life. It’s a really easy and informative read. I’m also a big Norman Walker fan and in his book Fresh Vegetable and Fruit Juices, Walker also talks about the wonderful health (and beauty benefits) of doing daily “breakfast juice fasts”. “Breakfast juice fasts” are also a really great first foray into the world of juice fasting.
