Whenever I'm asked to share a personal beauty tip or some favorite secret beauty weapons, I invariably draw a blank for a sec or two. It's just that to me beauty isn't something that's cut off from the overall lifestyle choices I've made over the years. I see healthy skin and bouncy locks as the by-products of the 360 way of life I've embraced, from raw foods and juicing to detox and meditation.
Of course there are really cool products out there that are fabulous beauty-boosting allies (and I'm always on the lookout for the latest and coolest beauty toy). That said, for me the true beauty epiphany (from effortless weight loss to natural head-to-toe glow) has come as a result of some healthy lifestyle choices (considered extreme by some, such as completing multiple 92-day juice fasts and some hardcore liver flushes) combined with simple daily switches that ended up bringing about some really amazing beauty transformations.
Below are 5 simple natural beauty tips that have worked wonders for me.
Amp Up Your Seaweed Intake
When I transitioned to a vegan lifestyle years ago, my naturopathic doctor highly recommended I amp up my seaweed intake. Mineral-rich seaweeds are true nutritional superfoods, yet they’re so often overlooked. There’s a whole world of super nutritious sea vegetables out there besides the popular nori (commonly used in sushi): kombu, dulse, arame, wakame, sea lettuce, hijiki, sea palm and Irish moss. And they all have their own beauty specialty. Kombu makes for awesome cellulite-busting baths and wakame is amazing at fighting the bloat. But they’re all rich in iodine so they’re fab at kicking our metabolism into overdrive (iodine is needed for the production of thyroid hormone, our metabolism control center).
Looking for delicious ways to “cook up” some seaweeds for dinner? Checkout my no-rice raw vegan sushi with cashew dip, raw vegan nori rolls with creamy cilantro sauce or this gluten-free cucumber pasta with creamy avocado sauce and nori flakes.

Where do I get that kind of seaweed you have in the picture? It looks delish!
Thanks for sharing your tried and tested beauty tips!
I appreciate your reading suggestions. Been wondering about cleanses and detoxing for a while.
Just what I need!
Oil cleansing? Haven’t heard of that before. Thanks for the idea!
Brilliant…I love all natural anything, this made my day xx
So glad to hear 😉
Great post! In regards to cleansing face with oil, I have very oily skin so anything oil when applied to my face makes it worst. Do you have any tip for oily skin?
You might want to experiment with more astringent oils like hazelnut, castor, borage or grapeseed. I love coconut and avocado oils but they’re definitely more suited to normal/dry skin.
Also, keep in mind that the oil is removed from the face. As I’ve said I personally use a steaming hot washcloth to thoroughly remove the oil. I do several rounds and wrap my face with it to give myself a mini facial steam. There isn’t a trace of oil left after this process. Just clean, glowy skin.
I have the same problem too!
