As I landed in Hanoi, I had no idea what to expect. I had booked a flight on a whim. I had never been to Vietnam. Hadn’t done much research. Hadn’t perused any photographs… All I came with was a street map of the city I’d snatched at a local bookstore in Chiang Mai. I instinctively knew that the Old Quarter was my neighborhood of choice. There I was. And it was love at first sight.
Hanoi is absolutely amazing. Hectic. Dizzying. Electrifying. Yet amidst the crazy, crowded and chaotic street life there is a quiet focus and inviting spirit that’s all at once bewildering and bewitching.
