It’s not exactly a secret… but now it’s official: I’m a low maintenance girl! Taking more than fifteen minutes getting ready in the morning makes me uneasy. Seriously, I can think of a million things I’d rather be doing than fussing with my hair or any other time-consuming body-aware ritual. Even though I enjoy going to town and logging in the hours necessary to achieve an elaborate look on special occasions, when I’m fortunate enough to call the shots on a shoot (meaning when I’m the producer) I like to go for extra glammed yet effortless hairstyles (can’t always sport my “just got out of bed and shook up my mane” trademark look ;).
For Second Chance, I had total carte blanche. My challenge was to come up with three distinctive looks that underscore key scenes in the film yet remain consistently effortless and uncontrived.
I knew I’d start with my fave “second-day hair” look, which can pretty be summed up as freshen up the curls, build a little volume and bring on the shine. Simple and gets me camera-ready in record time. My second fave hairdo to amp up the glamour is the classic side-swept look. Always works. It’s elegant and all it requires is a few hair pins and a little pomade to smooth the side and add some shine. Finally, for the “Happily Ever After” look (hint! hint!) we went for something a little more elaborate. After all it’s a very special day! This half-up hairdo with fresh orchids takes a little more doing but it’s definitely a standout.
In this video tutorial, Tyler, Lauren and Adriana of the Aveda Institute Los Angeles give us step by step instructions and cool tips & tricks on how to pull off these three glamorous and easier-than-they-appear looks from the film. In addition to the Aveda Be Curly curl enhancer (which I love and use on shoots all the time!), most of the products used in this tutorial are suited for all hair types. And several are included in our fabulous Aveda Beauty Package Giveway!

I’ve always been curious if you do your own styling or if others do it.
