I loved getting lost in the tumultuous streets of Hanoi‘s Old Quarter. I walked from dawn to dusk, taking in the sights, scents, energy and a gazillion photographs to try as much I could to capture and engrave those memories in my mind and heart.
I know this is going to sound strange, but all my life I’ve been asked if I’m of Vietnamese descent. The only rational explanation I’ve ever been able to come up with is the double consonants in my name which, though unusual most everywhere, is rather common in Vietnam. The truth is I felt inexplicably at home in Hanoi. I felt a deep connection with this wonderful place, its culture and its people, and savored every second of my stay. I only have one regret, that I couldn’t stay longer and explore more of this fascinating country. I was teary-eyed on my last drive through the city, but deep inside I knew… I will be back.
