For this fashion shoot I let my imagination reach for the stars. What better place to discover unbound love? And back here on planet earth, the heavenly inspiration for this one-of-a-kind geometric wrap skirt and bustier was found half way around our own little planet. As you may know, I have a particular affinity for Japanese culture, and a deep admiration and fascination for traditional Japanese craftsmanship and its exquisite refinement. I am an avid collector of vintage Japanese obis (I have accumulated an obscene amount of them over the years. I somehow seem to love each new discovery even more than the previous, if that were even possible). The hypnotic patterns and divine color combinations are drop dead gorgeous. A true feast for the eyes. The design I sport in this fashion editorial is one of my own creations and a fusion of my two loves: architectural and sculptural construction combined with traditional Japanese textile design.
And the bracelet deserves a special mention. Isn’t it gorge? It’s by jewelry wunderkind Alexis Bittar. Definitely a statement maker. This exquisite piece embodies everything I love in an accessory. Minimalist but bold. Über modern yet classic in its simplicity. Love. Love. Love. It’s by far the coolest upper arm bracelet I own. I discovered it during a recent visit to Alexis’ store on Abbot Kinney in Venice. Stepping into the store was a delight in and of itself. I received such a warm greeting from Annika and Jessica. These girls are a joy to be around. Their enthusiasm is contagious. Sooo glad I decided to swing by. I can’t wait to peruse Alexis’ latest collection!
Meanwhile, the mystery man behind those sexy Nautica shades (in case you wondered) is Connor EpsteinKraus. This East-coast hailing hunk is guest-starring in two upcoming films that will be featured in The Global Girl Fashion Cinema Series. We initially cast Connor to be my love interest in the film that will kickstart the series, and he was such a pro and so wonderful to work with that we had him back for an encore. There’s a lot of wonderful talent who deserve to be showcased. I want theglobalgirl.com to become a platform that will champion the hottest up-and-coming talent from around the world. You’ll get a chance to make Connor’s further acquaintance soon, and I’m sure you’ll fall in love with him as I have (figuratively of course!).
As a final note (I’ve got to get this off my chest) – I LOVE my Japanese fans. Special cyber love to all of you! 私は日本を愛しています!
