It’s no secret, I’m a big fan of Ghanian-born designer Mimi Plange. As you know, I kick-started 2014 with a month-long feature of her fabulous work. So it’s no surprise that several of her gorgeous designs were patiently awaiting me in my hotel room (getting to NYC turned into a bit of a reality show this season with last minute snow-storm induced flight cancellations) and that I decided to debut New York Fashion Week with one of her amazing creations.
Whenever asked for my signature style, the three words that invariably sum it up are: minimalist, bold and graphic. No wonder my jaw dropped when I came across this fabulous Mimi Plange wool and leather cape! I knew I had a fashion week street style hit on my hands. Combined with this sexy pair of python and merino wool leggings (another Mimi wonder) and the right selection of understated accessories, I was in and out of my suite at the Empire Hotel and ready to confidently step into Lincoln Plaza in record time.
This look caught the eye of fashion photographer Hannan Saleh who captured it for Essence Magazine as well as Kristen Bousquet at ImaxTree for StyleCaster and Joanna Typek for famed Polish glossy VUMAG.
