Though I physically landed in Los Angeles a few days ago, I haven’t totally made my way back into the worldly world just yet. To tell you the truth, jumping from ten days of monastic seclusion exploring the deepest recesses of the mind to slipping into this megawatt sparkling mermaid gown was a bit of a shocker 😉 Saying that I live and love a life of contrasts would be an understatement! Yet I couldn’t think of a better way of stepping back into the world and a brand New Year than by introducing you to a rising African fashion designer whose work I absolutely adore.

There are few things that bring me more joy than discovering and promoting talented emerging artists. And when my eyes swept across the work of Ghanaian born designer Mimi Plange (who won the Designer of the Year award at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week South Africa), my heart skipped a beat. I mean, look at this gown! Need I say more? The exquisite refinement of her designs, bold use of color and sumptuous craftmanship (as you’ll soon discover, Mimi’s masterful use of hand-beaded embellishments and luxurious fabrics is quite impressive) had me swooning over her work.
